Tirur










Tirur is a town and municipality in Malappuram district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the most important business centres of Malappuram district



 Father of the Malayalam Literature Thunchathu Ramanujan Ezhuthchan born in the 16th century AD in Tirur.

There are many govt schools and a college in Tirur. Seethi Saheb Memorial Polytechnic College (SSM Poly) is one among the prominent centres of engineering studies in Kerala. Fathima Matha English school, NSS English School, MES Central School are the prominent private schools in tirur. Bharathiya Vidya BhavanEnglish School is located at Tirunavaya, Tirur.

Tirur is a witness for the heart breaking 'wagon tragedy' of the 1921 rebellion as the British police carried 70 revolutionists in a fully closed airtight train wagon to pothanur in 1921 and thus killed more than fifty persons by asphyxation.The wagons were returned with the dead bodies to Tirur. These bodies were laid to rest in Khabristan of the mosque nearby.

Tirur Municipality has built a town hall in memory of the Wagon Tragedy, where you will find a real size train wagon built right next to the building,,
